Parpens are prism-shaped pieces some 45-cm high and 20-cm thick, where the length can vary. They traditionally have a rustic finish and are employed in the construction of houses and stone fences.

At present, new technologies let this product be mechanised so that it can be given any type of surface finish, such as flaming and bush hammering. Parpens of other sizes and less thick –generally 8 to 10 cm- are also being employed as an inner reinforcement for brick walls.
